As interações sociais moldam a forma como percebemos, sentimos e aprendemos sobre o mundo, e apesar da sua importância para as espécies sociais, ainda sabemos muito pouco sobre como o cérebro computa a informação social. O nosso grupo está interessado em compreender os mecanismos através dos quais o comportamento social molda o nosso cérebro, e para isso, focamos nas interações sociais cooperativas em roedores. Demonstrámos que os ratos Norway apresentam comportamentos pro-sociais no contexto da alimentação forrageira, fornecendo alimentos aos seus conspecíficos, e identificámos os mecanismos proximais ao nível do comportamento. Os projetos atuais e futuros visam identificar os circuitos neurais responsáveis por esta fascinante tomada de decisão social, utilizando uma combinação de ferramentas comportamentais, anatómicas, farmacológicas, imagiológicas e optogénicas em roedores.
