Overview

Cláudia Cavadas (CC) is PharmD and PhD in Pharmacology, University of Coimbra, Portugal. CC is the head of the Neuroendocrinology and Aging Group at CNC - Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology. Her research group hasthe mission is to contribute to develop new knowledge in the aging field, namely to demonstrate that neuroendocrine system and related mechanisms can be targeted in experimental models to delay manifestations of aging and age-related disorders. CC successfully supervised 13 PhD students and 48 Master students, attracted around 2 M€ of funding, has around 100 scientific publications and was invited speaker in relevant conferences and research institutions. CC is Associated Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra. During 29 years of teaching experience at the Faculty of Pharmacy, CC coordinates and is professor of different subjects such as Pharmacology, Histology and Embryology, Physiology, Pathophysiology, etc. And since 2019, CC coordinates the subject “Research and Science communication. Cláudia Cavadas has been very committed to promote science to non-academic/scientific public and organized and participated in several science communication and outreach activities. Claudia Cavadas is the former Vice Rector of the University of Coimbra (2019-2023), in charge of Research, and Director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research; during that time CC launched and coordinated several initiatives as the Strategic areas of Research of the University of Coimbra, Doctoral Schools@UC, Three Minutes Thesis Competition, ERC@UC, MarieCurie@UC, etc… CC has also been committed to promote inclusion and diversity in research, and she organized the initiative GendER@UC and coordinates the funded project GendER@UC-EAA Grant.
