Raquel Alves, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra. She received her Ph.D. in Aging and Chronic Disease from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra-FMUC (2020), a master's in Molecular Cell Biology (2011) from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, and a degree in Biology (2009) by the same institution. She is a researcher at Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (iCBR) - Group of Environment Genetics and Oncobiology (CIMAGO) of FMUC and Centre for Innovative Biomedicine and Biotechnology Consortium (CIBB). She is a member of several societies, namely the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR), European Hematology Association (EHA), Portuguese Association for Cancer Research (ASPIC), and Portuguese Hematology Society (SPH), and member of various COST Actions. She currently teaches Applied Molecular Biology and Nutrition Biology, and collaborates in PhD and master courses. She co-supervised 2 bachelor students, 12 MSc (three ongoing), and 1 PhD (ongoing). Raquel Alves (H-index 11 and 272 citations according to Scopus) published 25 completed papers (8 as the first author), three book chapters, and >125 abstracts in international and national journals. She presented more than 250 works at congresses, 197 of them as posters and 60 as oral communication (8 as invited speaker). She participated in 25 projects, in 6 of which she was responsible for the coordination (3 as Principal Investigator and 3 as Co-Principal Investigator), received 23 awards and organized 6 scientific meetings. She was a reviewer for different scientific journals and is the guest editor in 2 special issues. Raquel Alves frequently engages in outreach activities, namely the European Researchers Night and other activities targeted at the general society. Currently, Raquel Alves' research is focusing on molecular and cellular mechanisms of cancer, drug resistance, new biomarkers of susceptibility, diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy response.
