Sara Maria Oliveira Pinto

Overview

With a first degree in Nursing (Ângelo da Fonseca Nursing School – Coimbra, 2005), a specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing – Palliative Care (Portuguese Nursing Council), a Master’s in Palliative Care (University of Porto, 2012), a PhD in Nursing Sciences (University of Porto, 2017), and a Postdoc in Health Sciences – Palliative Care (University of Coimbra, 2023), Sara Pinto has developed extensive expertise in both clinical practice and academia.

During 12 years, she worked as a nurse in clinical practice, predominantly in hospital settings but also with experience in the community, before dedicating herself exclusively to teaching Palliative Care and Nursing. Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor at Porto Nursing School and a member of the scientific coordination of the Portuguese Palliative Care Observatory. From 2017 to 2022, she worked at Santa Maria Health School, where she coordinated the Postgraduate Course in Palliative Care (60 ECTS, 2018-2022), co-coordinated the Undergraduate Nursing Course (2020-2022), chaired the management committee of the Internal Quality Assurance System (2019-2022), and was as a member of the Technical-Scientific Council (2017-2021).

Her work focuses on advancing Palliative Care Nursing through national and international specialization courses, contributing to knowledge translation in the field. She has published in international journals and has received various recognitions, including a fellowship from the Portuguese Nursing Council for her contributions. Sara also work as a consultant for the Portuguese Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education.

Since January 2022, she has been a collaborating researcher on the EOLinPLACE project, funded by the European Research Council. Her research aims to align end-of-life care with patients' and families' preferences, ensuring that care not only honors individual choices but also promotes comfort and addresses spiritual needs.
