Overview

Tatiana Catarino graduated in Biology at the University of coimbra (UC) in 2002 (educational) and 2004 (scientific) and completed her doctoral degree in Cellular Biology at the University of Coimbra under the supervision of Professor Ana Luisa Carvalho, at the 25th of May 2012. During her graduate research, Tatiana developed a tremendous interest and passion in Neuroscience and Cell Biology with main focus on synapse biology processes and how they are disrupted in neurological disorders. Specifically, during her PhD, Tatiana Catarino studied the role of cortactin acetylation in the regulation of synapse composition, which resulted in a first author publication. More recently, as a post-doctoral fellow, she addressed the role of ghrelin, a peptide that triggers appetite, in the modulation of AMPA receptors. To address these questions, she specialized and used a combination of techniques like primary cultures, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, and imaging (fluorescence and confocal microscopy followed by quantitative immunofluorescence analysis). During her scientific research Tatiana Catarino has been able to be part of large and multidisciplinary teams, which allowed her to contact with different cultures and points of view. She was also involved in the supervision of several young students as well as in project writing, activities that help developing personal skills such as team work, organizational, leadership and communication skills. In 2017, Tatiana Catarino became a new member of the highly skilled and multidisciplinary scientific staff of MICC team at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (MICC-CNC). As a post-doctoral fellow of the MICC team, she has been committed in training users to operate confocal, and epifluorescence microscopes and helping on implementation of advanced imaging techniques, as well as on the design of robust image analysis protocols. Tatiana Catarino's technical support extended to external academic units interested in specific technologies like the Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) technology present in our unit (MICC), which led to some LCM consultancy work in a prestigious company in Neuchatel, Switzerland, in 2018. Tatiana Catarino has also been actively involved in the organization of advanced courses that provide the PhD and Master students with the fundamentals of light microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, live cell imaging, and specific LM imaging methodologies, applied to Biomedicine, in the scope of Masters and PhD training courses. Tatiana Catarino has published 4 articles in journals. Has received 1 awards and/or honors. In his curriculum Ciência Vitae the most frequent terms in the context of scientific, technological and artistic-cultural output are: Acetylation; synapse, cortactin, ghrelin.
