Validation of the Alcohol-Related Quality of Life Scale

Overview

Project Summary

There is a excessive alcohol abuse worldwide, which results in approximately 3 million deaths annually, corresponding to 5.3% of all causes of death. Excessive alcohol consumption has a significant impact on the physical health, psychological well-being, social relationships and general functioning of the individuals affected. It also entails high costs in terms of health care, public safety and social order. It should also be noted that excessive alcohol consumption is one of the main causes of preventable premature death. Assessing alcohol-related quality of life is fundamental to understanding the effects of treatment and developing effective intervention strategies. In this sense, we propose carrying out a validation study of the Alcohol-related Quality of Life Scale (AQoLS) for the Portuguese population.

Main Goals

The aim of this project is to adapt and validate the AQoLS in order to obtain a reliable and valid measure for assessing alcohol-related quality of life in Portuguese individuals. Validating the AQoLS in Portugal will allow a more accurate and sensitive assessment of the effects of treatment, as well as making it possible to compare results between different national and international studies.
