Floriani Chair in Palliative Care

Overview

Project Summary

The Fondazione Floriani is an Italian foundation dedicated to funding projects in the field of Palliative Care for more than 40 years, in Italy and in the world. In line with previous and current initiatives promoted by the Foundation, the Floriani Chair of Palliative Care extends the Foundation's reach to Portugal, where palliative care still faces major challenges to being fully implemented and integrated into the healthcare system. A sustained work programme is needed to promote the development of activities aimed at improving education, scientific research and public awareness of palliative care in Portugal, to make a real difference to patients, their families and health care professionals.

Main Goals

The objective of the Floriani Chair in Palliative Care is to support the development of education, research and public awareness about palliative care in Portugal. The Chair proposes to implement education, research and communication activities in four areas, each led by a specialist experienced both clinically and academically: 1) primary palliative care, 2) pediatric palliative care, 3) oncologic palliative care and 4) family support.
