Overview

Graduated in Biotechnology with mention in Biohealth (2018) and PhD in Biomedicine with International mention (2023) at the University of Granada. She complemented her education with a Master's in Tissue Engineering and Advanced Therapies in 2019, and a Master's in Teaching and Education in 2020, both at the University of Granada. In terms of professional experience, she held a predoctoral health research contract (PFIS) from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III in Madrid, Spain. This was carried out within the Tissue Engineering Group of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Granada, Spain (2020-2023). Her pioneering research during this period significantly contributed to the field of oral mucosa Tissue Engineering by prevascularizing artificial human oral mucosa substitutes using various sources of stem cells. Furthermore, she combined her PhD studies with teaching responsibilities in the Department of Histology at the University of Granada, teaching in the Medicine and Occupational Therapy degree programs. Additionally, in 2022, she completed a six-month pre-doctoral fellowship funded by a grant from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, Spain, at the biomaterials laboratory of Prof. Xiahoua Liu at Texas A&M University, Dallas, TX, USA. As a result of her work during her PhD studies, she has authored more than 10 publications (6 as the first author) in top-tier international journals in the fields of Histology, Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, and Teaching, under the name Blanco-Elices, C. She has also presented her work in over 40 posters at international scientific congresses. Her expertise has been internationally recognized, leading to invitations to peer review scientific articles for 5 distinguished international journals in the fields of tissue engineering, biomaterials, and regenerative medicine. A member of the Spanish Society of Histology and Tissue Engineering (SEHIT) since 2020, she decided to transition to Dr. Hugo Fernandes' lab as a research assistant at the Multidisciplinary Institute of Aging (MIA), University of Coimbra, Portugal, to continue her research career after completing her PhD.
