Cuidados paliativos pediátricos
Os cuidados paliativos, de fim de vida e de luto são uma das áreas mais negligenciadas e complexas dos sistemas de saúde actuais, uma área que afecta todos os seres humanos e que só pode ser compreendida por disciplinas transversais. A necessidade global desta abordagem de cuidados está a crescer rapidamente num mundo social envelhecido e alterado, com recursos de cuidados limitados. As projecções mundiais publicadas na revista Lancet Global Health em 2019, nas quais o nosso grupo colaborou, mostraram que o número de pessoas que morrem com sofrimento grave relacionado com a saúde deverá duplicar de 26 milhões em 2016 para 48 milhões em 2060. Este número inclui crianças, adolescentes e adultos que vivem e morrem de doenças crónicas complexas. A perda de cada uma destas pessoas deixa cerca de cinco pessoas de luto. Os cuidados paliativos, de fim de vida e de luto devem ser acessíveis a todos. Para o conseguir, é necessária investigação.
O nosso grupo reúne investigadores e clínicos de diferentes áreas, trabalhando em estreita colaboração com doentes e prestadores de cuidados para atuar como um centro de investigação e inovação interdisciplinar. Como um grupo de investigação emergente do CiBB, os nossos principais objectivos são construir novos conhecimentos e descobrir novas formas de organizar os cuidados, intervenções e soluções de produtos, com vista a ajudar as pessoas a viver melhor com a doença, a morte e o luto, de acordo com o que é mais importante para elas e com a melhor qualidade de vida possível.
