GenExpress

Overview

Project Summary

Gene therapy is one of the most promising and innovative fields in biomedicine. However, it is a complex subject that is little understood by the majority of the population. GenExpress is a multidisciplinary science education and communication project that aims to communicate concepts related to gene therapy in an accessible and entertaining way, contributing to scientific literacy in this emerging field. The centerpiece of the project was the development of an educational board game that, through game-based learning, promotes the active involvement of participants and the application of scientific concepts in a playful way.

GenExpress leads players to take on the role of scientists in the search for an effective gene therapy, through challenges, questions and strategic decisions along a path full of discoveries and obstacles. As they play, participants develop skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and communication, while deepening their knowledge of genetics, biology and health.

This project is part of GeneT.

Main Goals

  • To produce an attractive, accessible and scientifically rigorous board game with gene therapy as its theme.
  • To promote scientific and health literacy among young people and the community in general.
  • Create science communication tools that can be used in schools, science centers, congresses and science dissemination events.
  • Increase knowledge about genetics, rare diseases and biomedical innovation, demystifying gene therapy.
  • Involve diverse communities, including school and non-formal contexts, promoting access to scientific knowledge.
  • Stimulate a taste for science and scientific thinking through a creative and engaging approach.
